Almost a month……

It has been almost a month since the accident and surgery. He has come a long way. He is back to insisting on more belly scratches and competing with his little sister to see who can get the closest to me. He is running a bit. He greets us at the door when we come in. He is learning to balance when he poops by centering the remaining front leg. He is mingling with our other dogs (under our watchful eyes).

He hates the ring on his neck but has to wear it until the open wound heals. It is slowly healing. It has to heal from the inside out. It will be a slow, long process.

Finally some good news….

Taking a break from cleaning to sit and rest and cool down. It is hot, in the 90’s but feels over 100 with the humidity. Grizz and the other dogs are melting on the couch while the fan hits them. It is sticky in the house even though the air is on. I thought while I was cooling down I would do an update since I haven’t been able to with my new job.

The vet called with the culture results….. NEGATIVE of any bacteria. His temperature has been normal for over 4 days. He is done with antibiotics. I haven’t had to give him the anti-inflammatory medicine for several days.

He is peppy. He greets us at the door any time we go outside. When I get up he follows. His tail is wagging. I go down the hall and I hear, clump, click, click…clump, click, click… it is Grizz coming down to see where I went.

Another day that Mom picks on me…

Grizz here….

Mom insists on opening my mouth and shoving nasty tasting things down my throat and then holding my jaw shut. If I didn’t love her so much I would bite her. I am stuck with a big blue inflatable ring on my neck but at least it is better than that stupid cone thing. I can eat and drink better now. Mom makes me lay down on my side and she pours cold stuff on me. As long as she pets my belly while she does it I don’t care. She gets me up early so she can repeat this process. Mom started back to work so I stay in my kennel but as soon as she gets home she gets me out so I can potty and get lovings. Well, I better go Mom is coming and I don’t want her to know I use her computer.

Long day….

I had to be gone all day (6am to 7:30pm). Grizz seemed to do good. First thing I did was give him his medicine since it had been over 12 hours. Before bed I cleaned and medicated the wound. After I allowed the medicine to sit for the amount of time that was suggested I packed the wound With the medicine in it to try to keep the medicine in contact longer. He is in bed now (mom isn’t far behind).

He is having trouble adjusting to a three legged stance for pooping. Just as he gets ready to push he loses his balance and has to start over. He walked around so much he had to lay down for a bit to eat before coming in the house. Has anyone else’s pup experienced this?

Up and at it….

Up at 3:30am… pills in and wound treated…. making many wishes that something goes right and we get him healed and healthy.. still seems in decent spirits… tail wagging… hates to go back in his kennel at night and when we have to leave… couch potato… snuggle bug… signs of normalcy…. now just to get rid of the damn infection.
